Types of Opportunities

There are several ways to work for the RFK Center/Europe:

• Full-time positions,
• Short-term collaborations,
• Volunteering, and
• Internships.

Requirements

All prospective employees, collaborators, volunteers, and interns will:

• Have a strong motivation to work on human rights and social justice issues;
• Be fully proficient in English;
• Have good writing and communication skills; and
• Be team players.

Preferred Qualifications

Those who possess one or more of the following qualifications are particularly welcomed:

• MA or Ph.D. in international law specializing in human rights;
• Experience teaching or tutoring human rights courses;
• Experience researching and publishing on human rights;
• Experience working for a national and/or international human rights organization;
• Experience developing and implementing (online) training courses;
• Experience with development (grant seeking, fundraising);
• Experience with library management;
• Experience with event planning;
• Experience with marketing;
• Have a good knowledge of Microsoft and open source software;
• Have a good knowledge of social media and web 2.0;
• Have a good knowledge of bibliographical (e.g. EndNote) and customer relation management (CRM) databases (e.g. Salesforce); and
• Have a good working knowledge of Italian.

Topics

In particular, those who have experience with the following issues/activities are sought (this list is subject to change according to the programmed activities):

• Human rights and social media (i.e. social media applied to human rights, used by activists);
• The U.S. Civil Rights movement (history and its relevance to today);
• Teaching citizenship, law, and/or human rights courses in (Italian) schools;
• Journalism and human rights (i.e. investigative and responsible reporting);
• The Italian human rights situation and human rights movement (i.e. in depth knowledge of the main human rights problems in Italy and of the various historical and current human rights organizations);
• Corporate social responsibility (both within large/multinational business and their operations in countries with problematic human rights standards);
• Women’s rights (e.g. gender equality; violence against women); and
• International migration, policies, practices, and citizenship (e.g. rights, regulations, second generation)

(a) Volunteers

Those who would like to volunteer at the RFK Center/Europe, should submit an Expression of Interest including (i) a resume; (ii) a cover letter (in English), indicating the period of availability; and (iii) one reference. Precedence is given to persons who participated in RFK Training Institute activities and who are or were enrolled in partner universities (i.e. those with which RFK Center/Europe cooperates on a structural basis).

(b) Interns

Those who would like to intern at the RFK Center/Europe, should submit an Expression of Interest including (i) a resume; (ii) a cover letter (in English), indicating the period of availability; (iii) and a letter from his/her university confirming his/her enrollment.
