Advocacy Officer, RFK Partners for Human Rights

Salvador G. Sarmiento is an Advocacy Officer at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. He is responsible for the Center for Human Rights’ programs on the U.S. Gulf Coast and on Mexico.

Mr. Sarmiento overseas the Center for Human Rights’ partnerships with 2005 RFK Laureate Stephen Bradberry of the Alliance Institute, advocating with and on behalf of U.S. Gulf Coast communities that have suffered the impact of several natural disasters, and now, the BP drilling disaster. He also oversees the partnership with 2010 RFK Laureate Abel Barrera Hernández of the Tlachinollan Center for Human Rights of the Montaña.

Sarmiento’s advocacy has focused on issues of regional concern in the Americas, including the impact of U.S. assistance on human rights in Mexico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. His areas of expertise include the impact of U.S. law and policy on the right to food, water and health in Haiti and the challenges to disaster assistance policy.

Mr. Sarmiento earned a B.A. in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and a J.D. from King Hall at the University of California, Davis School of Law.
